Sometimes the most unloved model of a car can be a terrific value. But I’m not sure that’s the case here. This Jaguar Series II XKE 2+2 coupe a smog-strangled engine and unlovely open headlights. It’s the ungainly Jaguar Series II XKE 2+2 coupe and, worst of all, it’s saddled with an automatic transmission. Some maintain having an automatic Jag is a good thing, as that means the engine has never been revved hard. But why have an E-Type if you can’t listen to the sound of the exhaust as you crack a shift at redline? Even for putzing around town, this car was more than fully priced. But this Jaguar Series II XKE 2+2 coupe automatic will never provide the thrills of a real E-Type.
